Melanie Duguid-May Christian Faith and LGBT+ Experience Lecture at CRCDS
The Melanie Duguid-May lecture series works to highlight the experiences of LGBT+ Christians, to help deepen LGBT+ inclusion within the church. LABC was a founding member of the lecture series and the Christian Faith and LGBT+ Experience Collective, a group of churches that joined across denominational lines to promote loving inclusion and support of LGBT+ individuals, which began in 1998.
Rev. Junia Joplin (she/her) – June to most folks – is the Associate Pastor of the Metropolitan Community Church of Toronto – Toronto’s historic and history-making queer church. She loves telling people they are unconditionally loved with an everlasting love, and sometimes she delivers that message in a leather clergy collar, a rainbow catsuit, and iridescent silver platform boots.
June serves as the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Lead for the Toronto Pride Hockey Tournament, an annual event that creates an inclusive space to support and celebrate queer women, trans athletes, and their fans.
Broadview Magazine tapped June to host their award-winning podcast about women in the Bible, called And Also Some Women, in 2023.
She is a past recipient of the Canada 150 Community Leader Award and was named one of Canada’s Top 25 Women of Influence in 2021.
She loves stand up paddleboarding when it’s warm outside and playing hockey when it’s cold outside.

Taste of Myanmar at the Harvest Moon Festival
LABC's own Hkadin Lee will be helping with the Taste of Myanmar booth at the upcoming Harvest Moon Festival on Saturday, September 26. Come try out some Myanmar food, and explore all the other fun food, music, and vendors that celebrate the vibrant and diverse AAPI community here in Rochester. Entry to the festival is free, and Taste of Myanmar is asking that you pay with cash only. For more information, click here.
